Kathmandu, May 22, NS report -
Nepal won its second practice match against Guernsey Island by 70 runs on Wednesday. Batting first Nepal scored 209 runs with the loss of seven wickets in the allotted 50 overs.

Guernsey Island was all out for 139 runs. Raj Kumar Pradhan took four wickets while Mehaboob and Paras took a couple each and Sanjam Regmi took a wicket. Earlier Sharad Vesawakar top scored with 72 runs. Likewise Mehaboob Alam scored 45 runs. Skipper Binod Das and Basanta Regmi remained unbeaten on 15 and 20 runs respectively.

U-14 football

Kathmandu, May 21, NS report -
Nepal won five out of the six matches played at the U- 14 festival football in Tehran on Wednesday. Nepal defeated Maldives 2-0, Afghanistan 1-0, Pakistan 1-0, Sri Lanka 4-0 and Bhutan 1-0. Nepal lost to the hosts Iran 1-0. The event is participated by eight nations.

Nepal thrashes Bhamas

Kathmandu, May 20, NS report -
Nepal thrashed Bahamas by 201 runs in a practice match played at the Guernsey Island, United Kingdom on Monday. Nepal batting first made 272 runs with the loss of seven wickets in 50 overs.

Bahamas in reply bundled out for 71 runs. Binod Das, Raj Kumar and Mehaboob Alam took two wickets each. Likewise, Basanta Regmi, Paras Khadka, Sanjam Regmi and Shakti Gauchan took a wicket each.

Earlier vice captain Paras Khadka top scored with 63 runs of 42 balls. Shakti Gauchan scored a half century and Gyanendra Malla added 48 runs to pile up a huge total.

Nepal looses to Thai team

Kathmandu, May 20, NS report -
Nepal lost 7-0 to Thai team, after a goalless first half, in a warm up match at the Ragamangala Stadium, Bangkok on Tuesday.

Thailand opened its account just after two minutes in the second half and the goals started pouring for the home side until the 85th minute. Nepal conceded the seventh goal form the penalty spot given away by Anjan KC.

Nepal failed to defy the pace and physical dominance of the Thai side in the latter half.  Nepal is in Bangkok to prepare for the AFC Challenge Cup hosted by Cambodia. Nepal plays its first AFC qualifier against Macau on May 24.

Pradeep first

Kathmandu, May 20, NS report -
Pradeep Shrestha came first in the selection table tennis match played for the 13th Para Olympic which will be hosted by China. Ram Prasad Kharel was second in the match played on Tuesday. Likewise, Kamala Budhathoki and Shova Maya were first and second respectively in the ladies event.

Second JSA Karate international Championship is set to kick off at the National Sports Council Covered Hall form Thursday. According to the organizers Nepal Shotokan Karate Association, a total of 5 hundred players are set to participate in the championship. Out of which 260 are form Nepal and the rest form other nations.

Pradeep’s injury serious

Striker Pradeep Maharjan’s injury has been reported serious by team manager Birat Jung Shahi. National football team is in Bangkok to prepare for the AFC Challenge Cup. Pradeep tore a knee ligament in the 2-2 friendly draw against Thai second division outfit Bangkok glass on Sunday. This is a major set back for the national team as Pradeep was the star performer for Nepal in the last edition of AFC cup. Nepal plays its second friendly on Tuesday.

National team announced

Kathmandu, May 12, NS report -
Nepal’s German Coach Thomas Flath announced a 23-member national football squad for the imminent Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Challenge Cup qualifiers against Palestine, Macau and host Cambodia on Monday. The team which will play in Cambodia from May 24-28 mostly consist of younger players.

Coach Flath at the press conference said that he had selected the team after discussing the mater with Bhim Thapa, Upendra Man Singh and Balgopal Maharjan.

Parbat Pandey, Dipak Bhusal, Suman Subedi and Kiran Chemjong have been selected in the national squad for the first time.

Nepal Police Club’s Ananta Thapa has made a come back in the national side. While Nabin Neupane, Santosh Sahukhala,Yugal Kishore Rai have been axed. Striker Anil Gurung is sidelined due to a shoulder injury.

Flath said that criteria for the selection was based on the performance of the player.

Squad: Bikash Malla, Ritesh Thapa, Kiran Chemjong, Rakesh Shrestha, Chun Bahadur Thapa, Anjan KC, Biraj Maharjan, Lok Bandhu Gurung, Pradeep Maharjan, Bijaya Gurung, Parbat Pandey, Jumanu Rai, Nirajan Rayamajhi, Vishan Gauchan, Sagar Thapa, Sandeep Rai, Bikash Singh Chhetri, Nirajan Khadka, Raju Tamang, Suman Subedi, Deepak Bhusal, Ananta Thapa and Bharat Khawas.

Inter-school football

Kathmandu, May 11, NS report -
Coca cola inter - school national football tournament is all set to kick off in the capital on Monday. The tournament will be held in four different venues of which competition began form Friday in Pokhara. While Nepalgunj kick off on Tuesday and Biratnagar on Wednesday. Hundred sixty schools form the valley are compete ting in the tournament which will be played in the knock out style according to the press release issued by All Nepal Football Federation on Sunday. The winner of the tournament will bag a cash prize of rupees two lakhs and second runner up and runner up will get one lakh and fifty thousand respectively.
