KATHMANDU, May 8( NS Report)- Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Academy registered seven wicket win over Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) XI, which consisted of Nepali national players, at the TU Cricket Ground on Thursday.
In the first of the three ODIs, the home team, on winning the toss chose to bat first and scored 152 runs in 46 overs. After rain interruption the touring team’s target was reduced to 112 in 29 overs. They completed the modest chase in 23.2 overs losing just three wickets in the process.
Earlier, openers Paresh Lohani and Mahesh Chhetri had a good opening partnership. They made 38 runs in eight overs. Chhetri was the first batter to return to the pavilion. Chhetri batting on nine was then adjusted leg-before off Wahab Riaz. Second wicket fell when Lohani edged to Sharfaraz Ahmad of Sohil Khan. Lohani scored 23 runs of 30 balls which included five boundaries.
Gyanendra Malla then controlled the innings. He scored 45 runs of 51 balls. He hit seven fours and a six before falling victim to spinner Imad Wasim.
Gyanendra fell on 112 as the fifth wicket and the rest five went for 50 more runs with only Mehboob Alam (10) and Basanta Regmi (14) reaching double figures.
Nepal’s bankable batter Sharad Vesawkar failed to make much of an impression so did the vice caption Paras Khadka who scored seven runs. Likewise Mahboob Alam and Basanta contributed 10 and 14 runs respectively.
Wasim was took three wickets while Riaz Khan and Yasir Shah bagged two wickets each and Khurram Manzoor took a wicket.
Chasing a modest target PCA’s first wicket fell when the team’s score was 39runs. Nepali skipper Das broke the opening partnership when Manzoor was caught behind. He scored 18 off 20 balls with a four and two sixes.
The other opener Raheel Majeed was the second wicket to fall. Off spinner Sanjam Regmi claimed his wicket but only after he had scored 60 runs of 64 balls. Ahmed Shehzad was the last wicket to fall he contributed 14 runs before left -arm spinner Shakti Gauchan sent him back to pavilion. Captain Khalid Latif and Ali Asad cruised PCB to victory.
The teams play their second match on Friday and the third ODI on Sunday at the same venue.

Ranipokhari Corner Team (RCT) got to the quarterfinals of the on going International Seven-a-side Football Tournament on Wedsenday. Dipesh Thapa scored the winner for RCT in the 14th minute after collecting a pass from Pravesh Katuwal form an unmarked position. Dipesh slided the ball into the back of the net beating two onrushing defenders.After Sulav Jung Rana was given was the red card by the referee RCT was reduced to six men form orders by the referee. The match was also stopped for several minutes because of an altercation between two set of players. RCT keeper Dilip Chhetri was adjudged the man-of-the-match for a string of good saves.
Earlier in the day, Manang demolished Tata Steel, India 7-0. Raj Kumar Ghising and Sunil Subedi both bagged brace for Manang while Khum Gurung, Sachin Shrestha and Sanjay Gurung also got their names in the score-sheet Manang Marsyandi Club and Pokhara ‘B’ are the other teams to reach quarter finals.

Clinton and Golden Peak won their matches against Greenland, Triyog School and Angle Heart respectively in the boys’ category of the Third Kwiks Inter-school Basketball Competition on Wednesday. Arunodaya won 32-17 against Greenland. Likewise Clinton defeated Triyog School 20-4, and Golden Peak axed Angel Heart School 20-12. Likewise in senior girls’ category, Marsyangdi School hammered Angel Heart 28-2 and Ideal School got past Golden Peak 10-2.

Nepal Basketball Association (NeBA) is organizing its annual Talent Hun’ program at the National Sports Council Covered Hall from Thursday. The program is supported by Trinity International College and will run till June 25. The best 15 participants of the program will be provided full scholarship in various +2 colleges in Kathmandu, said NeBA in a press statement released on Wednesday.

German Coach Thomas Flath will take over Nepal’s senior football team form Tuesday. Flath’s contract runs’ until June 30th said All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) in a press statement issued on Monday. According to the press release, Flath’s appointment was a result of bilateral agreement reached at the 2006 World Cup in Germany. Flath is a former Schalke 04 senior coach. He will guide the national team at the South Asian Football Federation Cup in Sri Lanka and the Maldives in June.
